B-Pollinators and Backyard Habitats | May 3, 2022
Learn all about our best pollinators and where they live in engaging activities highlighting the 6 Pollinating B’s: bats, beetles, birds, butterflies, bees, and the breeze. Hands-on activities explore the phenological effects (the natural cycles and seasons) and how they have influenced our B-Pollinators to adapt to find food, water, shelter, and safety. Students will learn to apply what they have learned to an engineering project that will help them to create welcoming backyard habitats at home. Projects will be for butterflies.
Seed Saver Field Day | May 10, 2022
Jump into the magical world of seeds! Students learn the power of completed plant lifecycles and the abundant opportunities that are provided to the whole community with just a handful of seeds. Like Johnny Appleseed spreading food growing trees throughout the west, your students will learn to be seed stewards; growing, harvesting, and sharing seeds locally to build seed resiliency and community food security.
Parents are welcome to join in seed-saving activities. All students must be registered to participate. All activities will help establish a free community seed library in Ripon, CA. The bounty of seeds collected will be available to share with families and additional communities as supplies allow.
Fiber from Around the World | May 17, 2022
Children will discover a diversity of fiber-producing plants and animals from around the world and the cultural art that came from the integral care of these crops and herds. From the Silk Road beginning in China to the Aztecs of South America, a textile adventure awaits. Activity station concepts include microscopic discovery, items made & tools, dyes and designs, textural games, paper making, and wet felting. Please wear clothes appropriate for getting wet and a bit messy.
